While everyone else was off enjoying the sights and sounds of Comic-Con, THQ invited me to the Chula Vista race track down in San Diego for an up close and personal look at their upcoming game Baja: Edge of Control. With no previous knowledge of racing and no experience of off-roading outside of taking the train home from work, I was obviously the perfect choice for the job.
In case you have no idea what CORR stands for, here's a simple formula I've devised:

Got the idea now? Good. Now the other highlights...
So, yeah,
Baja: Edge of Control. It's like those old
Motorcross Madness games (which I have fond memories of finding the outermost boundaries and then being shotputting 200 feet in the air when I attempted to cross it) but with slick, new nex-gen graphics and physics. In fact, Robb Rinard of Motorcross Madness fame is the developer on the project. He gives you a little peek into the upcoming off-road game:
To get us media folk into the whole off-road experience, we witnessed the weekend's Saturday CORR races at the track. They warned me not to stand near the fence and take photos while the races were going on, but who am I to take advice... ever? This, of course, meant quarter-sized rocks hurtling toward our heads and plumes of dirt and smoke scratching our eyes:

So, we took a break from the races. Luckily, we found some other eye candy that made the whole experience a little bit better:

Now check out some more screenshots from
Baja: Edge of Control.

The game comes out on September 15, 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
