How CES Prevented My Cab Driver From Getting a Handjob

happyending[1].JPG

For some reason, when people find out where I work, they tend to start overdisclosing like crazy. And it's not like I go around waving my business card in people's faces. After my plane landed in Vegas for CES, I hopped in a cab to make my way over to my hotel. I had obviously flown in for the convention, and Vegas cabbies, like everyone else in the city, are hustlers so he struck up a conversation. Within a minute of me saying, "I work at Maxim," he had already launched into one of the most detailed descriptions of a stripper's breasts I had ever heard. And trust me, I've heard quite a few. Then he told me that we was done with strippers and had moved on to the happy endings.

CES 2008 Worst Swag Award: Lenovo's Blinking Lightbulb

worst_swag_award.jpg

Now that I'm back from CES, the question I've been getting more than any other is, "What kind of awesome, free stuff did you get?" The answer is nothing. I already had two bags with me so I ended up stuffing my promotional CES backpack into the trash can of my hotel room. And other than a crapload of pens and a couple flash drives, I came back lugging the same crap I had when I left. There was one stand-out though, and it was from Lenovo. They were promoting their new IdeaPad laptops, which are geared toward entertainment, rather than business like their ThinkPad siblings, so they handed out yellow, blinking lightbulb-shaped doohickeys. I got it the first day of the show and somehow it stayed in my pocket until I left (yes I wore the same pants the whole time I was there.). Check the video to see it in action and, if I didn't lose it on the flight, I'll smash it with a hammer, later.

The DualView DLP TV Makes Science Fun

DUALview_video.jpg

I love playing multi-player video games when people come over, but when my area on the screen shrinks, my fragging abilities go with it. That's why I kind of want one of these DualView TVs for my house. Two HD pictures are shown on the screen at the same time. You put on special glasses (since you probably don't care about the science behind them, just assume they're magic) and one of the images is removed, leaving only the picture you want to see. Flip a switch and you'll see the other one. Just watch the video, it'll be easier on both of us.

It sounds great for video games, but if you do it with TV wouldn't it just be like changing the channel? But, what do I know. I'm no scientist. Or am I? Nope, definitely not.

Feature: The Biggest CES Pissing Contests

Companies spend a ridiculous amount of money coming out to CES so it makes sense that everyone wants to be the best. But sometimes the competition gets a little out of hand and you end up with companies whipping 'em out to measure 'em.

150_inch_TV_1[1].jpg

1. Biggest TV
Sharp put up a good fight last year, but Panasonic must have answered a lot of spam e-mails about enlargement to get their game up to 150-inches. I didn't even see anything remotely close to it in size walking the floor. Sure, there were a bunch of 100-inch sets, but those are so 2005.
Winner: Panasonic

Don't worry beautiful, it's not that no one likes you, it's that no one wants the shitty magazine you're handing out.
