What Is It Like to Drive the New Porsche 911 GT2?

cars_calling911_articlemain[1].jpg

I like cars. Hell, I liked them enough to spend the second half of last week drooling all over the rides at the New York auto show. But one of the lucky bastards from the magazine got to get their hands on Porsche's new mega-car, the 911 GT2. Just reading the description of tearing ass around Daytona in a certifiable dream car makes me green with envy. So, if you too would like to be insanely jealous of a lead-footed staffer, then check out the article. Or you could just go do doughnuts in your pinto until the wheels fall off. That should be after about one and a half doughnuts.

New York Auto Show: Land Rover LRX Concept Roves Land

land_rover_LRX_1.jpg

Land Rovers have always been known for being classy and comfortable, but it's their manly look that separates them from the fleet of soccer mom-mobiles currently parked outside of the super market. The LRX concept looks more urban than its jungle-proven bros, but Land Rover assured me that it sports the same never-say-die-and-drive-over-some-tigers attitude as the rest of the fam. The reduced weight and 2.0-liter, turbodiesel hybrid make it easy on Mother Earth's lazy ass, too. If you want the hardcore specs, check out the Land Rover site. If you just want to gawk at more pretty pictures of it, hit the link.

New York Auto Show: How Bentley Gets Wood

bentley_blog_1.jpg

The street cred and smooth rides that Bentleys provide are matched only by the incredible prices they demand. But there's a cause for all of that cost and the wood inlay is a big part of it. Every car gets a stip of wood that completely surrounds the interior. It doesn't sound that impressive until you consider that the whole thing is done completely by hand. The process involves several rounds of gluing, sanding and polishing and the result is a flawless finish. One thing I didn't know was that all of the wood is done so that if you cut the car in half length-wise, each side would be exactly the same. That kind of attention to detail is what really seperates a car from a truly awesome car. I can't even be bothered to clean the Fritos out of the carpet of my ride. If I just keep smashing them, they'll eventually just become part of the car. A salty part.

New York Auto Show: The Concept Riviera Is the Coolest Buick Ever

buick_concept_blog_1.jpg

Buicks usually make for a fantastic ride, but their exteriors put off that "I'm an old, fat man vibe." The Riviera Concept, on the other hand, looks incredibly cool. The gullwing doors are totally sweet, and I can only assume they make that sweet, "Ksshhoooom" noise when you open them. Alas, it's a concept so you won't get to drive it any time soon, even if you're, Tiger Woods. OK, maybe if you're Tiger, but definitely not if you're Phil Mickelson or worse.

New York Auto Show: 2009 Corvette ZR1

corvette_super_blog.jpg

The Corvette is a true classic, but this new, turbocharched version is, in my useless opinion, the sexiest one so far. There 620-HP V-8 is so pretty that they put a clear panel in the hood so you could look in and see it. There's a ton of carbon fiber in the body, which makes it a lot lighter than it has any business being, and give it the distinction of being the first production Corvette to be capable of more than 200 mph. Not bad for a car that costs about a third of what a comparable European ride would run. In short: Do want.
