Not even Christmas can push as many HDTVs out the door as the Super Bowl, but as more people flood into their local big box stores, the percentage of people buying the wrong gear skyrockets. So before you drop three paychecks on that mammoth display, make sure you aren't falling into one of these common traps.

"Gimme the hugest set you have"

The wow-factor of a 60-inch TV is undeniable, but the crappy experience you get from watching a huge 720p set from 4-feet away can make you regret your purchase. Even 1080p sets can look like crap if you sit too close, so check out one of the many charts out there on the web and bust out the tape measure to find out your optimal set up. If you're going to be sitting close, you might be able to save some dough buying a 720p set instead of the more expensive 1080p model.

I love playing multi-player video games when people come over, but when my area on the screen shrinks, my fragging abilities go with it. That's why I kind of want one of these DualView TVs for my house. Two HD pictures are shown on the screen at the same time. You put on special glasses (since you probably don't care about the science behind them, just assume they're magic) and one of the images is removed, leaving only the picture you want to see. Flip a switch and you'll see the other one. Just watch the video, it'll be easier on both of us.

It sounds great for video games, but if you do it with TV wouldn't it just be like changing the channel? But, what do I know. I'm no scientist. Or am I? Nope, definitely not.
