If the good doc hadn't fallen off of his toilet and banged his head, he never would've envisioned the flux capacitor and Marty never would've been able to have his wacky adventures. Never mind the fact that he didn't know the proper pronunciation of gigawatt (it's GIG-a-watt, not JIG-a-watt), his modified Delorean was the crowning jewel on top of a career filled with inventions worthy of even the maddest scientists.

There has been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the Large Hadron Collider, a $9 billion monster of a device that may be able to create a type of matter not seen since the big bang. The problem is that there's a teeny, tiny chance that firing it up could create a black hole that can destroy the earth faster than you can say, "Screw you, Einstein." Of course it's a lot more complex than that, but the worry is so great that a lawsuit has been filed to prevent its activation. Personally, I think they're being worrywarts. If movies have taught us anything, it's that planet destroyers are not always all they're cracked up to be.


The Death Star

Destructive potential: The empire's crowning jewel was capable of turning any planet Darth Vader disliked into fine space dust.
What it took to stop it: It only took one photon torpedo to take down the original death star. But to explode the unfinished Death Star from Return of the Jedi, Luke and his crew had to shut down the shield generator while Lando and Wedge strolled in and wrecked up the joint. Lucky for Darth, he had good home owners' insurance.

First Hulu came around handing out awesome free content over the web and now Matt and Trey have put every episode of their beloved South Park online without the bleeps. The quality is awesome (I've only been able to test it over the office's T1) and the commercials are as unintrusive as you could possibly ask for. That hasn't stopped some people from complaining about them, though. Personally, I have the extra 2 minutes per episode to watch commercials and support companies that are actually trying to make content accessible and free, but there's just no pleasing the Internet most of the time. Now, if you don't see any more posts for the rest of the day, you can be pretty sure that' I'm catching up on all the episodes I missed back in those middle seasons that aired when I was too poor to have cable.
