  • Nanotechnology Can Help You Go to Space, Win the Masters

The word nanotechnology gets thrown around a lot these days, but I wasn't quite ready to see it in the description of a piece of golf equipment. A company called Grafalloy teamed up with PowerMetal Technologies (they have nothing to do with Iron Maiden, I checked) to create the EPIC golf shaft. It uses, and get ready for it, molecular nano-crystalline metals to make it a lot lighter and stronger than the graphite currently holding your driver together. It sounds wacky, but apparently it works, since Trevor Immelman rocked one all the way to the green jacket yesterday at The Masters. As expensive as it sounds, the shafts are actually available to the average Joe for only $135 at their website. You're going to have to shell out some extra dough to get a grip and head attached to it, but it might be worth it if only so you can say, "Hey buddy, can you pass me my driver with the molecular nano-crystalline metal shaft? Thanks."

  • 4 Drivers to Make You Less Sucky at Golf

The Masters is in full effect (aren't you proud of me for not saying "swing?") which means next weekend, tons of schlubs—myself included—will be jonesing to get out on the course. But golf is hard. Luckily these high tech big dogs are making the game a little easier for the guys that putt for dough and drive for d'oh!

Fangy golf talk: Weighted power-base, SuperFast Technology for increased swing speed
This 450cc stick is engineered to help the average joe get the same kind of pop off the tee that the pros get. It's done through a combination of a big-ass head and a perfectly placed center of gravity. The titanium face also makes for incredible feel, especially on a soft ball, and one of the manliest impact sounds around.
