Ray Bourque
Legend With: Boston Bruins (1979–2000)
Retired With: Colorado Avalanche (2000–2001)
Look up the Boston Bruins during Bourque´s tenure, and you´ll find exactly zero Stanley Cups-but Bourque, one of the NHL´s all-time greatest defensemen, was the franchise. Desperately seeking a Cup before retirement and seeing none in Boston´s future, Bourque finagled a trade to the Avalanche (who were a favorite to win regardless), and got his consolation ring while thousands of Boston fans cried in their beers.
