So, it's May 5 and once again you're headed to Chi Chi's to creep out the salsa-stained waitresses (and avoid eye contact with any Mexican bus boys). It May be time to start a new tradition, esse: Meet Mr. Maibock, the golden (sometimes copper) hued beer that mensches in Munich have been sucking down every spring for centuries. Unlike machine-made frozen margaritas and sizzling fajita combo platters, which are available all year, supplies of Maibock (means "May Beer") will dry up fast. It's similar in sweetness to Germany's other seasonal beer standout, Marzen (aka Octoberfest). But Maibock is crisper, lighter and more lager-like than its heartier fall foil. It is the perfect beer for the season's first few sun-soaked drinking sessions.
