Stan Lee loves to talk. Kevin Smith loves to promote himself. Put them together and you’ve got Stan Lee’s Mutants, Monsters, & Marvels, a two-part interview series in which Stan the Man discusses the origins of Marvel Comics, the creation of some of their iconic characters (including a whole section devoted just to Spider-Man), and his thoughts on the sudden influx of Marvel-based movies. Kevin Smith is on hand to moderate and remind people that he is the single most influential filmmaker/comic book writer/comic book shop owner/action figure peddler/voice of a generation/Silent Bob/whatever to grace mankind. While true believers will relish hearing Stan drop funnybook science, you can’t ignore the fact that this is an entire DVD of…two guys talking. It’s a nerdier My Dinner with Andre, making it a tough sell for anyone who has no idea what gamma rays are. If you love comics, however, this is a pretty nice multimedia reference book.
