One of our favorite phrases in English is actually kind of foreign: “French actresses.” What a demographic. For while French women are known foremost for their beauty and elegance, they’re also famous for their wit and emotional gravity and as such, make superb actresses. In the '60s, blond muses Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve captivated audiences; in the eighties, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Huppert were international film stars and festival queens; today, Marion Cotillard, Eva Green and Audrey Tautou are among Hollywood’s biggest stars, though they live far beyond The Hills. To our delight, a new generation is emerging with as much grace and glamour as their forebears, but because many haven’t yet broken into the United States, you may never have heard their names. That’s a pity, so to help, we’ve listed the eight we have our eyes on. Allons-y!
They’re all just too jolie to function.
