Rock Out With Classic Photos of Queen, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Debbie Harry

Mick Rock photographed some of the most recognizable album covers of the 1970s.

He was dubbed “The Man Who Shot The Seventies” for good reason. British photographer Mick Rock was the foremost chronicler of Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie, and snapped iconic album covers for Iggy and the Stooges, Lou Reed, and Queen after getting his start shooting Syd Barrett, the enigmatic co-founder of Pink Floyd.


From 1972-1973, Rock was Bowie’s official photographer and videographer, directing glammy videos for “Space Oddity”, “Life on Mars”, and “The Jean Genie”. He went on to work with Roxy Music, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie and Joan Jett, and, more recently, the Black Keys, Skrillex and Daft Punk. As Taschen Gallery in Los Angeles celebrates his new book, Mick Rock: Shooting For Stardust, The Rise of David Bowie & Co., with an exhibit that runs through October 11, let’s revisit some of Rock’s greatest photographic hits.
