Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we're going back to August of 2000, when we were refused employment at Coyote Ugly, Gameboys were the shit, and we knew how to load a jukebox.
Cover Girls: Tyra Banks & Izabella Miko
Where You've Seen Them: We've always been enthralled with the idea of hot girls feeding us shots and then dancing on a bar, but for the most part those dreams were always just, well, dreams. That's why, when Coyote Ugly came out in 2000, we were thrilled to learn there was a bar dedicated to those very activities all the time. Score! Bringing supermodel Tyra Banks to the big screen along with super-hot, then-unknown actresses Izabella Miko, Bridget Moynahan, Piper Perabo, and Maria Bello, there was no way we could (or would) leave that movie theater without a fight. And we mean that literally. It got weird.
Where They Are Now: Unfortunately for all of humanity, the Coyote Ugly girls went their separate ways, and none of those ways involved all-night table dancing. Thankfully, however, most can still be found enjoying the spotlight. While Tyra hosts the reality competition America's Next Top Model, the rest of the clan stuck to acting, with Bridget Moynahan, Maria Bello, and Piper Perabo in particular finding success. We're still banking on a surprise sequel to the film that made them famous, though we probably shouldn't hold our breath.
Smart-ass Answers to Dumb-ass Questions
Our smart-ass attitude hasn't changed much since 2000 - and neither has the world's need for stupid questions, apparently. But what has changed is our legitimate fear of using electronics while flying. Back then, one reader wanted to know whether a Gameboy, Walkman, cell phone, or other electronic device could really cause a plane crash. As it was in 2000, the answer is still no, but while electronic devices continue to be banned during takeoff and landing, the FAA is finally looking to lift the ban on using cell phones mid-flight. Progress, indeed. By the way, what in the fuck is a Gameboy or Walkman anyway?
Licensed to Fill!
Who doesn't want their own bar? Nobody, that's who. There's nothing better than comfortably chugging drinks without having to endure judgy stares or flag down douchey bartenders. Plus, the drunken walk to the couch is a lot easier than stumbling home from a bar at 4am. So, other than the fact we probably wouldn't know what to do with that jukebox anymore, this is one case where we haven't changed much since the year 2000. We'll drink to that.
