Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we're going back to the winter of 1999, when Bridget Fonda was a Hollywood starlet, we vowed to keep our New Year's Resolutions, and we were cautiously looking ahead to Y2K.
Cover Girl: Bridget Fonda
Where You've Seen Her: The late '90s were good to this LA native, whose role in Single White Female still terrifies us whenever we have to look for new roommates. As the daughter of Peter Fonda and niece of Jane Fonda, it's no wonder this gorgeous blonde instantly struck success. When we caught up with her in 1999, Bridget was playing the pregnant wife of a rural man who finds millions of murderous dollars in A Simple Plan.
Where She Is Now: In 2002, Bridget went on an acting hiatus, and, unfortunately, hasn't spent much time in the limelight since. Her current whereabouts are unknown (at least to us), but what we do know is that we'd thoroughly enjoy a comeback. (And if that comeback could also involve her doing the Jane Fonda, so much the better.)
How To: Keep Your New Year's Resolution
In 1999 our ambitious nature was on the rise, particularly when it came to our long list of New Year's resolutions. While the idea of an empty vow to better ourselves is endearing, these days we'd rather stick to nurturing our vices. Honestly, New Year's resolutions are for quitters, and we simply won't stand for it.
50 Signs the World is Coming to an End
When the Mayans predicted humanity's demise in the year 2012, weirdos around the world proceeded to stock up on non-perishable items and supplies to build giants arks. But long before all that was the looming fear of worldwide doom that was Y2K. After the realization that computers might inadvertently reset to the year 1900 rather than 2000 at the stroke of midnight on the last day of 1999, everyone went completely batshit crazy, believing that we'd suddenly awake on January 1 to a world without electricity or modern technology. Of course, when the millennium did roll around, not one glitch occurred. Better luck next time. Or whatever.
