Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we're going back to November of 2001 when Jules Asner was the queen of entertainment news, we could easily pick up some Pez, and Shaquille O'Neal was a basketball sensation.
Cover Girl: Jules Asner
Where You've Seen Her: It's no secret that we're total suckers when it comes to beautiful women, but entertainment news goddess Jules Asner turned us into putty when she landed in the spotlight in 2001 with her ridiculously long legs and penetrating stare (sorry, had to). Getting her start as E!'s Wild On... host, Jules stepped aside two years later for Brooke Burke, moving on to E! Entertainment News. From then on, we had no choice but to tune in and pay attention to Ryan Seacrest's personal life.
Where She Is Now: In 2004 Jules took on yet another hosting position on daytime talk show Life & Style, accompanied by former fashion model and Russell Simmons' ex Kimora Lee Simmons. Unfortunately, the show barely lasted one season and Jules hasn't been seen much since. Luckily, we have extra issues leftover to remind us why we fell in love with her in the first place.
Food For Fun
We can barely count how many times we woke up covered in Reddi Wip and Polly-O string cheese wrappers, but we know it's been ages since we laid eyes on a Bugs Bunny Pez dispenser. Is it because we've come a long way since our pimple-infested prepubescent years, or because they claimed extinction along with slap bracelets and Chia Pets? We may never know. But what we do know is that we're still grounded for buying candy cigarettes (it's cool, we still live in our parents' basement).
You Talkin' Smaq?
In 2001 Shaquille O'Neal was still a basket-slamming God. Being the overall first pick in the 1992 NBA draft - fresh out of Louisiana State - and winning Rookie of the Year after his first year with the Orlando Magic, it's safe to say that the 7'1'' player ruled the courts pretty early on. But it was after joining the LA Lakers that the athlete really blew up, winning three consecutive championships and staking a claim in Hollywood. While rumors swirled regarding drama between him and fellow team members (Kobe...cough), Shaq continued to perform while playing with the Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics. These days, the Jersey native is retired and serves as a TV sports commentator, but we presume he still has the ability to grant any wish you command while rhyming.
