Throwback Thursday: November 2007

Check out what we were up to in November of ’07. Don’t worry, we’ll leave out our middle school class picture.

Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we’re going back to November of 2007, when Eva Mendes was still cementing her place in Hollywood, Travis Barker was God’s gift to drums, and Hayden Panettiere was barely legal.

Cover Girl: Eva Mendes

Where You’ve Seen Her: We always love a good action movie, but throw a ridiculously good-looking heroine into the mix and we’re really sold. Eva Mendes broke into the Hollywood scene in 2001 as the sweet and sexy Cuban alongside crooked cop Denzel Washington in Training Day. From there she moved on to Will Smith’s love interest in the rom-com Hitch, and later played a customs agent in the never-ending Fast and the Furious series. While we still think she owes us for the two hours we lost watching Hitch, all was forgiven when we reread the part of Eva’s interview where she talks about her enjoyment for nude gardening.

Where She Is Now: With proposal rumors swarming, we’re sad to say that Eva may soon be off-the-market for good. But with several projects on the horizon—including a leading role in How to Catch a Monster, Ryan Gosling’s highly anticipated directorial debut—we’ll still be able to admire her from afar. Which, if we’re honest, is how most of our relationships go anyway.

Featuring:

Caddy Daddy

If you didn’t usher in the new millennium scoping out tattoo ideas while blaring Blink 182, you missed out on a key part of awkward adolescence. When Enema of the State came out in the summer of ’99, the tatted-up trio unleashed every millennial teen’s inner pop-punk thanks to singles like “What’s My Age Again” and “All The Small Things.” But it was Travis Barker, with his overwhelmingly inked skin and sky-high mohawk, who became the band’s standout after several concert drum solos that kicked major ass. It also didn’t hurt that his wife was really, really hot. Though he’s since endured a messy divorce and a narrow brush with death after a 2008 plane crash, today he continues to jam out alongside LL Cool J, Cypress Hill, and his fellow Blink 182 band mates.

Hot Right Now: Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere started acting around the same time she learned how to walk. Or as we remember it, our sophomore year. But by 2007 she had really grown up, saving the world in an awesomely short cheer uniform on NBC’s hit series Heroes. That was also the year she turned 18, so naturally, we felt we had to celebrate.
