This Week in Gaming – “InFamous: Second Son” & More

Get the scoop on all the best video game releases for the week of March 24.

InFamous: Second Son

Platforms: PlayStation 4

The epic PlayStation exclusive returns for its first appearance on the PS4. Taking place seven years after its predecessor, InFamous Second Son has an entirely new cast of characters, new powers, and, most importantly, a vibrant, pulsing reimagining of the city of Seattle for you to rampage (thanks to SuckerPunch Studios’ excellent use of the PS4’s new horsepower). We’re not messing around when we say rampage, either. So much of the environment is destructible that, by the end of our mission to meet other conduits, adapt their powers, dismantle the evil Department of Unified Protection, and ultimately choose whether to be good or evil (we chose evil, obviously), it’s a wonder that the Space Needle was still standing.

Cabela’s Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts

Platforms: 360, PS3, PC, WiiU

If there was ever a video game that might garner Ron Swanson’s seal of approval, it’s Cabela’s Big Game Hunter. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the addictive arcade shooter come home, but this is easily the biggest version of it to date. We also recommend, nay, insist that you play it with the included hunting rifle controller, since normal controllers simply fail to capture the feeling you get after having a few beers and putting a bullet between the eyes of a 10-point stag. You know that feeling, right? It’s the feeling of thousands of years of hunting and eating red meat.

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition

Platforms: PS3, PS4, PSVita

You don’t get to the eighth iteration of the same game without doing something right. Dynasty Warriors 8 finally arrives on PS4 and PlayStation Vita. Boasting a humongous list of playable characters and even more weapons for you to use with them, Dynasty Warriors continues to be the preeminent button-masher action game, whether you’re the kind of person who likes to approach massive battles with surgical precision or just a guy with some extra-fast thumbs who’s all too happy to have an excuse to work them out. The story has actually been taken to new levels here but, when it comes to 30 on 1 battles, we’re never too picky about why we’re in a fight. Like our old Shogun used to say, it’s all about winning, because if you’re not first, you’re last. Or was that from Talladega Nights? Either way.
