How did you get started with music?

Music is something that I’ve pretty much done since I could probably talk, but I started taking it really seriously when I was in high school — that’s when I figured out that being on stage was the way to go for me, and I really enjoyed it and I loved writing music. By the time I was in college, I was auditioning and ended up at Sony records. Now I am doing it independently and am releasing everything through my own label. I work with a collective of really talented, amazing friends that support and believe in the project. In 2013, we are releasing the first EP, which is called Qoya. It’s got a lot of different tracks, and I’m super excited about being able to put it out into the world.

In one of these pics, you’re smoking a cigar. Are you a cigar aficionado?

I’m not a big smoker but I do appreciate cigars. There’s something really kind of earthy and spiritual about them. I have this fascination with different myths and goddess-driven mythology, and I think cigars connect to that sensibility.

Do you have a party drink?

I like Scotch. It goes with cigars! I just drink it straight, or on the rocks. I like the fact that you get to sip on it, and it’s more laid back. There’s something sexy about Scotch.

Do you have a scar that tells a story?

I have a little scar on the top of my forehead. During my high school years, I was really into punk and hardcore music and sang for a punk band. The first night that I sang with them I ended up moshing (or tried to) and somehow my girlfriend’s tooth ended up in my forehead and that was the end of that. I ended up with this little tiny scar. It was terrible because I didn’t know who actually I ran into and what had happened. After it happened, I tried to find her and went to her house. When I got there, she just smiled and I realized that she was going to go through a lot to get her tooth put back in. I feel really bad that it happened, but it is what it is, and that’s my scar story.

That’s crazy.

I was a terrible kid, and I really gave my parents a run for their money. I was just in every possible situation I could’ve put them in. I’m really glad that my parents are so loving and forgiving. I definitely put them through a lot of years of worry and hell.

What’s the one thing to remember in a fist fight?

That’s funny, I used to get in a lot of fist fights when I was little. I guess to keep your wits about you somehow. Sometimes you let your feelings and emotions take over and that’s probably the worst thing you can do. But if everyone did that, there’d be no fist fights at all! As a kid, I used to get so angry and then I’d get into shark mode. I don’t do that anymore, by the way.

Who was the last person to see you naked?

My boyfriend, even though he would probably say the rest of the world because I’m a complete nudist. I have a tendency to forget my windows are open, and I have to start remembering.
