Pink Floyd Is Officially Over

The legendary band is calling it quits after 50 years.

Pink Floyd is officially dead. 


While fans of the British rock ensemble salivated over the prospect of the band reuniting for another spate of tours after the release of last year’s The Endless River —their first album in 20 years, after the release of The Division Bell in 1994—beloved guitarist David Gilmour confirmed in an interview with Classic Rock magazine that the group’s 50-year story is coming to an end.


“I’m done with it. I’ve had 48 years in Pink Floyd—quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger [Waters],” Gilmour said, according to Billboard  (as Classic Rock’s story isn’t available online and the print version is, er, hard to find). “And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95 per cent musically fulfilling and joyous and full of fun and laughter. And I certainly don’t want to let the other five per cent color my view of what was a long and fantastic time together. But it has run its course, we are done – and it would be fakery to go back and do it again.”


Fans probably knew this was coming. Some of the band’s most beloved members, like keyboardist Rick Wright, have died in recent years, and the remaining members of the outfit “have a turbulent relationship with Waters,” as Billboardnotes. But don’t cry, Floyd fans: Even if the the band’s members are finally going their separate ways, we’ll always have their jams to remember them by.
