The Mafia Will Keep New Yorkers Safe from ISIS, Says Mobster Scion

Terror cells in New York? Fuggedaboutit.

A week ago, ISIS released a slick little music video showing a faceless man strapping a bomb to his body interspersed with images of New York City. The intended message was obvious: After a a successful terror attack that killed 130 people in Paris, ISIS is setting its sights on New York.

But it may be doing so at its own peril. Giovanni Gambino, son of crime boss John Gambino, says the Sicilian Mafia will keep the city safe from ISIS. And it’ll do a better job than traditional law enforcement like the FBI and Homeland Security, which lack “human intelligence,” he says.

“The Mafia and its allies, however, are connected to neighborhoods in a meaningful way. Wherever the Sicilian influence is strong in New York, ISIS interlopers simply won’t be able to set up shop,” he recently told a Dutch radio station.

Gambino, who’s on a press tour for his novel that attempts to demystify the legendary Mafia, seems to be saying that ISIS cells won’t be able to grab hold in communities where organized crime is already so prevalent. But if they do, it also sounds like he’s saying that mobsters won’t be afraid to pull to pump Daesh full of lead.

“The world is dangerous today, but people living in New York neighborhoods with Sicilian connections should feel safe,” Gambino said. “We make sure our friends and families are protected from extremists and terrorists, especially the brutal, psychopathic organization that calls itself the Islamic State.”

So rest easy New Yorkers. If that “brutal, psychopathic organization” ISIS comes calling, your own brutal, psychopathic organization will defend you.
