An Ashley Madison TV Show Is in the Works

And it sounds like a hot mess.

Because we haven’t had enough of Ashley Madison on the Internet, it may be coming our TVs.

OutEast Entertainment’s Steven Marrs and Courtney Hazlett are producing and pitching a show about the cheater matchmaker site, whose 30 million users saw their personal data leaked this month after a massive cyberattack.  Tentatively titled Thank You Ashley Madison (what we’re thanking it for is unclear), the show will take liberties with the true origin of the notorious site. Ashley Madison was founded by Noel Bideman in 2001, but in Thank You Ashley Madison, it will be a struggling mother who launches the business to give her family financial security.

Hazlett told the Hollywood Reporter that making the Ashley Madison creator male would be “stereotypical,” and indicated that the focus of the show would be infidelity itself, and that the hack might be explored — but not as a central plotline.

“There are a lot of TV shows doing a great job of presenting marriage storylines in new ways, but what we’re positing here is, what if there is a third lane to run in and what if you were honest about it?” Hazlett said . “What if you didn’t need a hack to have this conversation? Maybe this is where your life just is, and no shows on television are offering that.

“Anytime 30 million people are doing anything, it becomes worthy of a real discussion,” she added.

Jennifer Kennedy and Ian MacDonald are attached to write the series for Toronto-based Marblemedia; co-CEO Matt Hornburg told the Hollywood Reporter that the series was in the “early stages” of development. Maybe let’s keep it there.
