Tomorrow in Columbus, the US Soccer Men’s National Team will take on the bottom bunk of North America and heated rival Mexico for World Cup qualification. Unfortunately for freedom, liberty, and justice, they’ll have to do it without super-striker JozyAltidore, midfielder/defenseman Geoff Cameron, and centerback Matt Besler – all of whom are sitting after racking up a second yellow card in Friday’s match at Costa Rica.

While Jozy’s yellow card was arguable at best, Besler really got the short end of the stick, demonstrated by this field level footage that surfaced today. Joel Campbell, the Costa Rican player, makes an Oscar bid at 5:39.

As you can see, the referee (who bears a pretty serious resemblance to Count Dracula) is considerably far up the field and has his back turned, and after conferring with his assistant on the sidelines (while running full speed, of course) that someone in fact may have done something, issues a yellow card to whoever is in the area – in this case, the stunned Besler.

So the USMNT will trudge on against Mexico with some new starters and try to lock up a World Cup slot, which they can do with a win and a Honduras win or draw against Panama, but Mexico has a history of spoiling our parties. If only there was something a certain Mexican referee could do to make their job a little easier? Hmmm.
