Ah, the weekend. Two fleeting days to convince yourself you have some measure of control over your life. But planning out activities and amusements is a lot of pressure—which is why we're here to take some of the burden off your shoulders. And we promise not to let your boss know about all that extra shoulder space that could be used for at least eight more job responsibilities.
1. MOVIES
Resident Evil: Afterlife (Opens Sept. 10) - Maxim cover girl Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter are back in the fourth installment of Resident Evil, this time appearing in three dimensions. With their standard sci-fi uniform of ultra-fitted midriff-baring and/or thigh-flashing apparel—necessary to give these female fighters full range of motion, obviously—we can't wait to see these girls kick some undead ass.
2. MOVIES
The Virginity Hit (Opens Sept. 10) - Life’s most intimate right of passage comes under the lens in this touching heavy petting coming-of-age tale. This documentary-style comedy centers around a guy desperately trying to lose his virginity and his friends who insist on fanatically documenting it. The journey to manhood is a long, hard slog. But it's also hilarious.
3. SPORTS
Week 1 of NFL Football (Sept. 9-12) - The NFL kicks off the season in New Orleans this Thursday night with the reigning Super Bowl Champs hosting Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. Tune in to see how the Saints play with rings on their fingers, but be sure to leave room for more with games like Green Bay vs. Philly, going down Sunday. Philly's on their home turf, but the Packers offensive line is about to bring some major Midwestern swagger to the always sunny city.
4) DVDS
Steve McQueen Collection (Released Sept. 7) - The King of Cool continues his cinematic reign with the release of this latest box set, a collection of four favorites: Papillon, Bullitt, The Getaway, and The Cincinnati Kid. Full of prison breaks, organized crime, heists, gambling, and beautiful women, this investment in McQueen will no doubt add its own element of cool to your DVD collection.
5. TV
Entourage, Season Finale (Sept. 12, 10:30 PM, HBO) - Some people complain that, at this point, Entourage is a one trick pony and, by season seven, the routine is getting stale. But when the trick's props are gorgeous women, fast cars, and a reliably funny Ari Gold are you really going to get huffy about plot lines? If you're still not convinced, kindly pay a visit to Entourage star Dania Ramirez's Maxim cover shoot, Emmanuelle Chriqui's gallery, and the Hottest Girls of Entourage. And with adult-turned-mainstream star Sasha Grey's guest role, we wouldn't miss this season finale. Maybe we're old dogs, but we don't have any interest in new tricks.
6. MUSIC
Hopscotch Music Fest (Sept. 9-11, Raleigh, NC) - This three day event includes music from Canadian crew Broken Social Scene and Animal Collective's Noah Lennox, aka Panda Bear. Public Enemy will be headlining the event, which promises performances from 120 bands in the evening and parties hosted by local labels during the day. So if you're in the general vicinity, pull the earbuds out of your head and immerse yourself in a weekend of live music. Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby.
