    The good:
The tx1000z is easily nine-pounds of computer if a four-pound box. The 12.1-inch, glossy touchscreen is surprisingly versatile, staying bright and contrasty even in the face of sunny conditions that would make other displays go running for shade. The fingerprint reader is a handy utility that we're happy to see showing up on more laptops, even if the one on this rig is placed a little awkwardly for use in laptop mode. The swiveling tablet movement is smooth, simple and, most importantly, sturdy. Our unit came with both 4 and 6 cell batteries whcih is a nice touch for a laptop that's meant to be hauled around the world in a travel bag. The included media remote was also a welcomed addition, even if we are usually less than two-feet away from the machine when we're using it.

    The bad:
While Vista does allow you to take full advantage of the pen input, it makes everything else a little slow for a machine with 2 gigs of RAM. Like we said before, the fingerprint reader is in an awkward spot that takes a little getting used to. The verdict:
This is one of the best affordable tablets we've been lucky enough to get our mits on. The hardware is extremely solid and we wouldn't mind dragging it around with us as a day-to-day machine. Plus, it's really easy to put it in tablet mode and make people believe your some kind of doctor.
