The weather may be heating up, but with another stellar week of game releases, calling over a bunch of your buddies for some friendly console competition isn't out of the cards. (Your girlfriend? She can watch.)
This week's games selection lets you watch (and play!) the Watchmen. Plus, everyone's favorite limbless Nintendo avatars return for another round of embarrassing motion controls.
Watchmen: The End is Nigh Complete ExperiencePlatform: PS3
The movie was just "aight," according to
our resident nerd, but at least it gave us an excuse to stare at
Malin Akerman's form-fitting Sally Jupiter outfit for an extended session. (She
was No. 4 on our 2009 Hot 100 list after all.) If you couldn't get enough, ready your wallets, extend a cool $49.99 outward toward the store clerk and in return you'll receive this super duper compilation exclusive to the PS3. It comes packaged with the Blu-ray of the film (director's cut included), both parts of the
Watchmen: The End Is Nigh episodic game content, and additional, never-before-seen artwork used for the movie. It also comes with a mini poster to hang up near your bed, but we'd warn against doing that lest you want to be the only one sleeping in it.
Wii Sports ResortPlatform: Wii
Modern hexathlon athletes: Your shackles have been removed! The five sport-centric,
wildly popular Wii Sports franchise (probably because...IT CAME BUNDLED WITH YOUR WII!) returns to the scene of the crime with even more sports to pretend to play. New to the game are Sword Play, Power Cruising, and Disc Dog, and you'll be doing it with the new Wii Motion Plus add-on. It's supposed to make your arm flailing more accurate, so perhaps your lampshade will actually make it past Hour No. 2.
The King of Fighters XIIPlatform: Xbox 360, PS3
Any game franchise that makes it into double digits deserves a prize. The
KoF series hopes it's 60 dollars of your paycheck. Its twelfth appearance on a major North American console offers the classic three-on-three tournament-style fighting fans have come to know and love, and enough new timing techniques—counters, guards and such—to make you wish wish your fingers weren't the size of Jimmy Dean sausages. For those with regular-sized digits, you can record, save and upload your mixed martial arts exploits to the Internet to show off to your Facebook "friends" and Twitter "twatters."
