If this feels like World War II–era first-person shooter number 1,048, it's because game companies have been pumping these suckers out faster than the No. 4 meal at Taco Bell runs through a digestive track. But even if you've already played the 1,047 before it, that doesn't mean Brothers In Arms isn't worth oiling up your carbine for—the game packs more action than Call Of Duty, Full Spectrum Warrior, and three seasons of M*A*S*H combined. You're the all-too-human Sgt. Matt Baker, and trying to do everything yourself—a la Halo's selfish, glory-grabbing Master Chief—will only get your ass shot off in a hurry. Our advice: let your squad do the work for you. Find nests of Germans (just follow the trails of bratwurst and Dutch porno mags), pin them down with suppressing fire, then send in an assault troop to take them out. Gamers with short attention spans will likely find all the squad management tedious, but we think it adds a much-needed dimension to a very stale genre. Plus it includes the best video game quote so far this year: "If you see something, shoot it; if it screams in German, shoot it again." That's the spirit!
