Franchise fans, rejoice: Dante, our trash-mouthed, pizza-eating, demon-slaying antihero is back in another Capcom action masterpiece. We’re sure you’ve been wondering about the half-demon’s upbringing (Wait, you haven’t? Get the hell out of here!), so you’ll be glad to get a substantial dose of backstory. Awakening dives into Dante’s fraternal run-in with his supposedly dead brother Vergil, also spawned by their demon father Sparda…who’s pretty evil himself. But don’t let that stop you from taking Dante through wave after wave of dynamite fisticuffs on the road to unholy revenge. Three fighting styles (Swordmaster, Gunslinger, and Trickster) are available to choose from, depending on the type of aggression (close-range, long-range, or annoying-range) you want to employ. And of course, rewards are dispensed for how efficiently and impressively you’ve dispatched your foes. The result is an action fighting game that sometimes feels as slick as a disco showdown—after all, style counts just as much in the underworld as it does in the fashion world.
