Evil Dead: Hail to the King

The Sam Raimi–directed Evil Dead trilogy, revered for its hyper pacing and splattery humor, gets two severed thumbs up from cult-horror-flick fans. Those attributes are maintained here, as is the hero’s weapon of choice: a prosthetic chain saw to replace the possessed hand he hacked off. On a mission to collect pages from the Book of the Dead, Ash (voiced by Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell) makes hamburger of evil vermin with his saw, an ax, and a shotgun. This goes down in environments straight out of the movies, including that haunted cabin and a hillbilly slaughterhouse. New flourishes include a blood-flooded cellar and an undead Boy Scout troop. Well, step on up, campers, ’cause we want to earn our merit badges for carnage.
