While the purple GameCube persuades us that Nintendo’s tricks are for kids, every now and then there's a release that reminds us it's not all cart races and magic mushrooms in Mario's world. Geist is in the style of a horrific survival game like Resident Evil, with controls and action like Metroid: Prime's first-person shooter. In it, you’re a soldier who’s killed infiltrating an illegal laboratory, only to be turned into a ghost with the power to control other people and objects. This comes in handy, since you can use your enemy's weapons to take them out and your ghostly abilities to get out of jams. Unfortunately, you spend more time scaring the crap out of people than blowing the crap out of people, which slows down the action. But if you’re in the mood for something more than just a bullet-wasting shooter, Geist will have you possessed by the end of the weekend.
