Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death

How do you ruin a classic comic book packed with clever satire? First, turn it into a movie starring Sly Stallone. Second, base this first-person shooter game on it. The premise—a fascist state full of heavily armed cops tidily blasting through bureaucratic red tape by serving as judge, jury, and executioner—is a doozy. Set in war-ravaged Mega City, you kill or wound offenders (including zombies, crooks, and demons) with your multipurpose LawGiver. Keep an eye on your Lawmeter (which rises and earns you commendations for sparing innocents) and ultimately you’ll meet your nemesis, Judge Death, who’s bent on punishing citizens just for breathing. But for the crimes of middling graphics and dull-as-dirt game play, we sentence Dredd vs. Death to eternal burial in the discount bin at Costco. Court adjourned.
