In the future, the planet will apparently be covered with ice, and giant bugs will terrorize the few humans unlucky enough to still be alive. You play the game as a poor bastard named Wayne. Wayne's dad was killed by one of the giant bugs. (Unlike your dad, whose famous last words were, "Hey son, watch this!") Wayne's got a knack for piloting VS Suits—robotic mech suits that give him a fighting chance in his one-man war against the bugs. Unfortunately, the mech suits have a tendency to overheat more often than a 1992 Honda. Which means you'll spend much of the game 1) ejecting from your soon-to-'splode suit, then 2) scrambling around the tundra in search of another VS suit. The controls feels sluggish at first, but once you get the hang of them, battling these big bugs is seriously more terrifying than trying to battle Kirstie Alley's right and left thighs. Sure, it's only the second week in January, but Lost Planet is an early candidate for a spot on our top 10 games of '07 list.
