Maxim's Weekend Game Room: December 11, 2009

Hannukah commences tonight and we're two weeks away from Santa breaking into your home, rendering your cupboard dry, children happy, and domesticated animals fondled. (Hey, don't judge how those North Polers do things.)

Alas, the year's biggest game releases may have come and gone, but there are still a few good games landing in stores. This week's selection is no exception...

The Saboteur (PS3, Xbox 360)
Price: $59.99
Why You Need It: Sean Devlin, a Irish race car driver, teams up with a British intelligence agent to take down Kurt Dierker, a prominent figure in Nazi Germany, and inspire the people of France to revolt. If blowing up Nazis in a World War II occupied France sounds too derivative, perhaps ogling the legion of topless women located in the game will change your mind? Related: The Girls of The Saboteur

Why You Don't: You're playing an Irish dude fighting Nazis why?

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS)
Price: $34.99
Why You Need It: Fourteen other Zelda games didn't quite satiate your hunger for rupees, but this one, No. 15, just might fit the bill. Link and Zelda return for one more round, this time hoping to keep Demon King Malladus from being revived by restoring the spirit tracks that keep him imprisoned. Why You Don't: While Nintendo's other mascot, Mario, is going to outer space (Super Mario Galaxy) and reinventing the series with nostalgic throwbacks (New Super Mario Bros. Wii), Link has pretty much held steady in the dungeon-seiging business. Even with the nominal graphical changes and the incremental additions to the arsenal, there may be too much "sameness" here to justify its existence.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)
Price: $49.99
Why You Need It: If you missed the original Silent Hill game way-back when, then you have an obligation to at least try this one out. Following a similar plot, players control Harry Mason who wakes up after suffering a concussion following a car accident only to find that his daughter, Cheryl, has gone missing in the nearby town. Utilizing some fantastic Wii Remote controls (Best. Flashlight. Ever.) and quick wits, you must battle through Silent Hills' demons and find out its secrets before its too late. Why You Don't: If you played the shit out of the original Silent Hill game way-back when, then feel free to disregard everything from this entry and continue playing Modern Warfare 2. kbai.
