The great thing about watching professional football is that you get all of the fun and excitement without having to study a playbook. Youd think that football video games would give fans what they wantbig plays, big hits, lots of actionwithout bogging them down with minutiae. Unfortunately, NFL GameDay 2001 gets a little too complicated for its own good.
While we applaud the attention to detail and love the overall look of the game, trying to complete a simple play requires about seven extra fingers. You have to hit one button to snap the ball, one to locate your receivers, another to throw the ball, and yet another to make sure the receiver brings it down. Oh, yeah, you have to do all of this in the two seconds before the opposing teams defense force-feeds you astroturf. While this is probably what its like to be an NFL quarterback, sports video game junkies want all of the glory without the hard workor else, whats the point?
