It’s a meme! It’s an app! It’s Nyan Cat!
The Pitch: Taking the perpetual forward motion gameplay of Tiny Wings or Gravity Guy and skinning it like a cat or, rather, Nyan cats...which we assume means super funtime happy cats. How the hell should we know, our knowledge of Japanese starts and ends with tentacle porn and a sushi menu. Unagi!
What It Really Is: A seizure-inducing barfbag of Americana as seen through the eyes of a Tokyo denizen with ADHD...but it’s also a lot of fun. The gameplay itself is a straightforward run (or fly or cannonball) through an ever-progressing level of roadblocks, gravity traps, power-ups and pills that’ll make things shake, slow things down or flip the world upside down...just like in real life! You’re playing for a high score but we can’t figure out what makes a good or bad run in NCA, we think bonus multipliers help though that’s totally guesswork. Weirdest thing is, we’ve played for days now and we still can’t absolutely qualify if Nyan Cat Adventure is good or bad. On the one hand, it makes us want to giggle like a Sailor Moon voiceover. On the other, our brains have been dry-heaving uncontrollably since we downloaded NCA.
