With WWII-themed shooters proliferating like gangrene in a foxhole, POW stands out as that rare exercise in masochism when you’re expected to escape a Nazi stalag without so much as a lousy Luger. As captive G.I. Lewis Stone, you stealthily collect info, gear, and reconnaissance on an enemy missile depot before you finally make your, um, great escape. There’ll be no tricking secrets out of Colonel Klink with schnapps and show girls, though. You’ll rely on wits as you pick locks and scale fences while hauling ass to report for roll calls. Painstaking detail and suspenseful play make this a thinking sofa slug’s delight, though the deliberate pace might frustrate action fans. And if it’s not authentic enough, hell, there’s always the History Channel.
