Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream

Release Date:
04/16/2007
Game Platform:
Wii Virtual Console
Star Rating:
★★★★★
Finally, something decent to blow that Wii Points gift card on. For the price of a happy hour pint of suds ($5), you get the 1987 NES classic, including Bald Bull, Piston Honda, Soda Popinski (Maxim Trivia: His original name was "Vodka Drunkinski" in the arcade version), and yes, the enigma known as King Hippo. Each opponent requires a fair amount of toupee-scratching before you figure out their weak points. And once you do, you'll have to hit them about 5,000 times to K.O. them, even though only two or three of their punches will knock you flat. Because of licensing issues, Mike Tyson, the game's original villain, has been replaced with the completely bland Mr. Dream. But it's a testament to this game's greatness that even when you get ganked in the ring—and you will get ganked, trust me—you'll get off the canvas and click the "Rematch" button without even thinking twice.
