The guys who made those goofball Ratchet and Clank games try their hand with a totally different genre: The utterly humorless first-person shooter. The result? Not too bad at all, boys. Unfortunately, the whole shebang gets off to a pretty weak start. The DOOM meets Call of Duty gameplay is missing something essential during the first few hours. What's the name for it again? Oh yeah, I know: it's called BALLS-OUT EXCITEMENT. But around the game's midpoint, all hell does finally break loose, and it doesn't fucking stop until the final credits roll. Imagine massive battlefields with four-eyed aliens peering out at you from every possible hiding place. And these aliens aren't the dunces we're accustomed to dealing with in first-person shooters. These guys flank, charge, regroup, and basically concoct ways to root you out of your seemingly safe and cozy hidey hole. In the end, Resistance, for a launch title, managed to exceed our lofty expectations, but only by an wirey crotch hair.
