Despite its blubbery, geriatric figurehead, Madden NFL 2001 delivers gorgeously rendered, fast-paced gameplay.

Electronic Arts did their best to work around Madden and Summerall’s stale commentary during the game. It’s not only fun to play, but it’s easily the most realistic football video game ever made. In addition to steering your ball carriers through polygonal mounds of hurt, you can take on even bigger challenges, such as reworking your greedy player’s contracts as General Manager of your own team. About the only thing Madden doesn’t have is the ability to shoot your players up with pain-killers right before kickoff, but there’s always next year.
