As vividly gory as some shoot-em-up games are, it’s often difficult to determine exactly which section of mutant brain we’ve just splattered on the dungeon wall. X Squad solves this problem. Though really not the blood-spurtingest title around, the unsurpassed detail generated by the PlayStation 2 zoom in on an enemy’s eye with your sniper gun before putting a bullet through it is a clear sign of its potential. Leading a four-person antiterrorist unit, you’ll marvel at the cinema-quality special effects and massive environments—in which you kill, kill, kill. Cool pop-up menus allow you to quickly sort through your weapons and assign assault tactics to your teammates so you don’t face a hail of bullets alone. Two guns up.
