Ah, fall is almost here, with the beautiful falling leaves, the cool breezy days, and, oh yes, the hockey sticks to the groin. With pucks flying at over 100 mph, pain is the name of this game, and no video game conveys the hurt better than NHL 2002. The gritty visuals show players that cringe when slammed into the wall or sacrificing their body for the save, and a lifelike crowd applauds when their favorite player scores or knocks out someone’s teeth. The action is so intense and over-the-top that you have to wonder if Mario Lemieux would have reconsidered unretirement if he played this game a year earlier.
