Rockstar Games was hoping to stir up controversy with this long-delayed title, and, mister, did they ever. In this third-person fighter, the sinister Corporation has seized power and stripped away our civil liberties, prompting the roused rabble to take to the streets in protest. Playing as a freedom fighter, you run through the anarchy bombing cars, smashing windows, and looting…for freedom! You can indiscriminately blast the hundreds of people that scurry around the massive urban environments, but it’s best to target the death squads and executive lunatic VIPs who want to ice you, since civilian casualties will cost you points. Such virtual destruction may once have seemed innocent, but these days the whole thing hits a little close to home.
