Maximo: Ghosts to Glory

While we’d have any number of reasons to favor a title starring a heroic character named Maximo, this adventure has nothing to do with slaying rival gladiators or publishing a men’s magazine. Instead, you’ll be taking up your legionnaire’s shield and sword and slaughtering undead hordes in this 3-D take on the old-school quarter muncher Ghosts ’N Goblins. Though much of the play involves hopping around collecting coins and power-ups, the game sports a ghoulishly goofy comic sensibility: When Maximo loses his shirt in battle, he’s literally stripped to his skivvies, and even upon his death he can still negotiate with the Grim Reaper for extra lives. Not everyone’s cup of vino, but a true toga party for fans of the franchise.
