Rivaling Madden's "football" franchise, Konami's Winning Eleven 8 International finally reaches aesthetic perfection for what those inflated Euros call the "beautiful game." Although it's dogged by Commodore 64–quality music and selective licensing agreements—Manchester United is simply Man Red—this new edition more than compensates with killer graphics, new tricks, and an improved dribbling system. (It's not just for your mouth anymore!) Winning Eleven also boasts the requisite staples of any soccer game: seven worldwide leagues, six cups, countless players, the option to manage, and excellent player and stadium likenesses. The arcade element of the game lets you unlock new and classic teams, while the training mode will help even the soccer-illiterate gain a foothold on the game. With the new on-field referee serving as a target for F-bombs, Winning Eleven is the closest you can get to unbridled soccer hooliganism without visiting Ireland.
