The makers of this game hired a real writer to help them cook up the plotlines and characters in MadeMan. (The writer: David Fisher, who's written a ton of books about the mob.) What we get is the first game in the history of video games that manages to have better writing than game play. But having good writing in a crap game is like putting a silk hat on a pig. Or drinking decent beer from a plastic cup. Or putting on a pair of velvet-lined underpants just to fart. Despite some truly unique moments—like when the action in the game switches to a victim's POV—the disc drags more than an episode of The Sopranos. (End already, goddammit!) Sure there are some truly compelling moments here. But finding them is like having to dig through a turd just to find a piece of candy.
