While the PS2 and PSP versions of The Show shipped well over a month ago, Sony decided to send the PS3 version back down to the minors for some in-season retooling. The result: a slightly higher-res version of their already-solid baseball sim. Like all baseball games, The Show ain't perfect. To its credit, it takes itself less seriously than 2K's MLB series does. The game's challenges in the "Road to the Show" mode are fun until they become fucking impossible. Hitting a triple once? We can do that. But 10 times in a row? The game might as well display the words "GO FUCK YOURSELF" on the screen. The PS3's graphics are certainly crisp, and the inclusion of SIXAXIS control for fielding—snap your controller up to make your shortstop jump and rob that vain fucker A-Rod of base hits—is very cool; but overall, the game feels less like a fully realized next-gen baseball game and more like a blueprint for next year's installment. For now, we'll trade this game for two minor league pitchers, a half gallon of Gatorade, and a case of fungo bats.
