Three things you can count on in this life: death, taxes, and the occasional visit from Mr. Softee during sex. Oh, and one more thing: a new Tony Hawk game every 11 months. We barely had a chance to take the shrink-wrap off last year's Project 8, and already Proving Ground gets dropped off by our lovable FedEx guy (who always seems to time his visits to the office with his afternoon crap). Project 8 was the Hawkman's first foray into next-gen, and while it did show promise, it was obviously a work in progress. Proving Ground marks the first time that a Hawk game feels like it's taking advantage of the 360's and PS3's added horsepower. The disc features a sophisticated video editor, along with more of those slow-motion, nail-the-trick style moments, and the ability to seamlessly transition from offline to online. We're also fond of the new skate-checking system, which lets you barrel through city crowds elbows-first like Ron Jeremy trying to get to the head of a buffet line.
