The Skinny: Bionic Commando, a remake of the classic NES platformer, puts you in the role of Nathan Spencer, a military commando with the gift of an indestructible bionic arm.

The Good: It's tough to remake games from 20 years ago without altering them beyond recognition. Not the case here. The protagonist's multitasking mechanical arm still provides lots of swinging action, and the game's received a much-needed face-lift without ruining the plot. A ton of unlockables means indefinite replay.

The Bad: Some of the game's challenge rooms are almost impossible—at press time, only about 50 out of tens of thousands of players had completed them. And we wish co-op play wasn't just limited locally to the same console.

Crazy Meets Crazy: While the original game's boss was a crazy Nazi, the remake features a maniacal main villain that looks like Street Fighter's M. Bison.

Buy, Rent, or Disembowel? Buy it. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
