With horror games popping up on shelves like pustules on a KFC employee’s chin, it takes real innovation to creep out fright fans these days. Siren’s gimmick: the ability to see through the eyes of your stalkers—even as they kill you—with “sight jacking.” Playing as 10 different characters over three days in a foggy Japanese town rocked by an earthquake and surrounded by an ocean of blood, you jump around in time, complete missions, and figure out what the hell is going on. Zombified villagers attack, sometimes with guns, so tap into their vision to evade them. Difficult navigation and slow play require Zen-like patience, but riches await the persistent. You’ll revel in a bowel-loosening atmosphere, brain-twisting puzzles, and voice acting surpassed in horror only by My Slutty Wife XIX.
