The Soldier of Fortune series has always been known for two things: limbs getting lopped off and heads exploding like overripe casaba melons. On these two fronts, Payback does not disappoint. This is one of the most over-the-top first-person shooters we've ever played. Seriously, it could be called Flight of the Severed Limbs. Because the way arms and legs fly through the air, man, it's almost poetry. The game also features fairly sophisticated hit detection, which means if you shoot a guy's leg off, he'll fall to the ground and crawl around helplessly until he bleeds to death. Sadistic? You have no idea. Fun? Well, yes. Will you feel ashamed of yourself for playing it? Oh, definitelyespecially when there are so many other first-person shooters out there that are so much better. But still
cupping your hand over your mouth and saying, "Please fasten your seat belts and return your tray tables to their upright positions. Limb number 2,179 is now ready for takeoff," never gets old.
