The sequel to the popular Street Sk8er, this game allows even the most uncoordinated jackass to live the dream of a being a tattooed, baggy-pantsed ’boarding dude. Skate or die, man!

Street Sk8er 2 is a terrific all-round package, with a variety of gaming modes and a fast-paced style that’s never boring. Superb graphics make the little details of each customizable character really stand out (check out the tattoos on “Drew,” and “Manny’s” wool knit cap). You can also select which board you want to shred with (including such recognizable brand names as Powell), each rendered in exacting detail. There’s even an option for you to select your soundtrack, with skate-friendly bands like Ministry, Shootyz Groove, and the Chick Magnets offering up appropriately up-tempo tracks.

Oh, yeah, and then there’s the game. Skate through Washington D.C. monuments, London sidestreets, or Miami pools without once being hassled by the cops. Whether you’re feeling competitive (Competition Mode gives points for tough moves) or just want to jam (Free Skate lets you loose in D.C.—you can skate the Smithsonian!), this game has it all. But the hands-down best feature is the “Create A Park,” where you can actually build the skate park of your dreams, with pools, bowls, ramps, and rails beyond anything your buddy ever constructed in his backyard. If you build it, they will come.
