I’m your everyday farm gal from Three Hills, Alberta—a town with no stoplights, where we’d cruise the streets and everybody would pull their trucks into a circle in a field and listen to country music. I’m a small-town girl, and it’ll never be beaten out of me.
Were those farm boys all over you?
Nope. My nickname was Ed, because of my initials and also as a way to express that I was one of the guys. I was the tomboy out there playing basketball. The guys would go, “OK, Erica, these are the girls we want you to set us up with.” I didn’t get myself dates—I got my girlfriends dates.
